Hello Moms!
When you begin searching for work from home, chances are you will first and most often run into Network Marketing Business Opportunities. These business opportunities are also known as Direct Sales and sometimes Multi-Level Marketing (MLM).
Generally speaking, network marketers are selling products via their own network of friends, neighbors, co-workers etc. Often times you can earn additional income by recruiting other people to work with the same business opportunity.
There are plenty of ways to work from home. My advice is to explore all of your options before settling on something. If Network Marketing/Direct Sales feels like a good fit for you - here are some guidelines for choosing a legitimate opportunity and one that you will be happy promoting.
1. Make sure that it's legal. Always proceed with caution. You should research your states business opportunity statutes. How old is the business opportunity? Check out the Better Business Bureau to see if the company is listed there. You might also check out the Federal Trade Commission.
2. Find out if the company is reputable. Search forums for people experienced with the potential biz op. What is their opinion of the company's reputation, their products, their payment structure? Look for very experienced people. You will undoubtedly run into many 'newbies' who are really just starting out themselves. Their only objective will be to recruit you - they can't give you an honest assessment of the bizop because they haven't achieved any long standing success with it yet.
3. Is there a market for the product you will be selling, and do you love the product? You'll have a hard time convincing people to buy something that you yourself are lukewarm about.
4. Be discerning about who you sign up under. It's better to have someone very experienced in your upline that you can trust and turn to for advice and encouragement along the way.
5. Can you afford it? What are the start up fees? What ongoing expenses can you expect?
6. Is it for you? Seriously consider if you're up for the task. Do you enjoy talking with people? Are you dynamic on the phone? Would you feel good about selling these products or the opportunity itself to other people?
7. Don't fall for get rich quick schemes. Expect to work. Don't give up too easily, but make sure you enjoy and believe in what you are doing.
